Cool Eddie warms hearts on the Coronary Care Unit
Nurses at Good Hope Hospital have thanked the son of one of their patients for buying a new ice machine for their ward.
They have described the ice machine – saying it will help hundreds of patients for many years to come.
Mr Davis’s father is currently a patient on the Coronary Care Unit after he suffered a heart attack.
He said: “My dad wanted a cold drink but the ward’s ice machine had broken down. I brought iced water in for him then thought why not do something for other patients as well.”
Mr Davis approached businesses he knew who all agreed to chip in money for the machine.
Sister Mary Penny, who works on the Coronary Care Unit, said: “Having this machine is a real Godsend. We’re very thankful because our ice machine had broken down and was really beyond repairing.
“The unit has to be kept warm so it’s important that patients keep up their fluid intake. The problem is the water in the bedside jugs gets warm as well, so having the ice to keep it cool is very useful.
“It was very kind for Mr Davis and his business colleagues to help us and our patients in this way.”
