Good Hope nurses make a clean start to the New Year
Patients at Good Hope Hospital can look forward to a fresh and clean New Year
- after nurses decided to have a card-free Christmas.
The staff on Ward 9 decided not to send each other Christmas cards - and
spend the money instead on toiletries for patients.
And the generosity of staff has made sure patients will not have to go short
of soap, shampoo or toothpaste for weeks to come - because they have donated
dozens of items.
Ward Manager Donna Woodings said: “We’re an acute elderly ward -
and some of our patients come into hospital with very few personal belongings.
“One of the things they can lack is toiletries, so we decided to help
by donating items rather than send cards. It seemed like a better way to focus
the festive spirit.
“Elderly patients are concerned about their appearance and like being
nice and clean - so we’re glad to be able to help them during their
stay. I’d say we’ve got enough toiletries to keep us going for a
couple of months, so it’s been very worthwhile.”
