Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

Who are we?
We are a medically led multi-disciplinary Team from different backgrounds, including Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychotherapy, Social Work, Psychology.

All Team members are highly trained therapists with post-graduate qualifications and a diverse range of skills.

Who do we see?
Children up to age of 16 years, and their families, whose GP surgeries are within the North Birmingham PCT. We accept referrals from GP’s, Paediatricians, other Consultants & School Doctors.

What do we offer?
The Team uses different approaches depending upon the problem. Some examples are listed below:

  • Family Therapy
  • Behaviour Therapy
  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Group Psychotherapy
  • Cognitive Therapy
  • Play Therapy
  • Drug Therapy

We also provide:

  • Consultancy to other agencies
  • Liaison work
  • Training and Teaching

What Families Can Expect

  • The child and parent will see one or more members of the team for initial assessment in a warm, informal environment with ample toys.
  • Children and parents may be seen alone.
  • Each appointment will last for approximately one hour.
  • A decision will be made following initial appointment and treatment arranged as necessary.
  • A treatment programme tailored to the needs of the child and family.
