Good
Hope Hospital is investing £1 million in OASIS,
a brand new, state-of-the-art Patient Administration System.
Under
a three year deal with Siemens/Capula Elan, Good Hope is replacing
its existing 16 year-old PAS with the new
system which will be in use by the end of this year.
This will
come as good news to staff and patients alike, as the new
system will be more reliable, reduce the number of times patient
details are entered into the system and provide additional
functionality such as medical record tracking.

These
improvements will also boost the quality of services offered
at Good Hope, in that patients will only
have to give their details once when visiting the hospital.
The new system will automatically recognise if they have previously
attended the hospital, even if it was at different clinic.
OASIS will
also help to solve the problems associated with medical records
going astray, as the new system will electronically ‘tag’
each record and trace its movements around the Trust. OASIS
Project Manager, David Newey said,
“The
introduction of OASIS
to Good Hope is probably the largest and
most important IT project to happen in the Hospital for
the past decade, and with it will come a whole host of improvements
to both patient care, and the efficiency of the hospital’s
patient administration services.”
Patients
will also see the benefits of OASIS
at their own GPs as it will be fully integrated with Good
Hope's existing and very successful electronic booking
system, enabling day case and minor operations to be added
to the options available for direct referral and booking online
within primary care. Finally the new system will also play
a pivotal role in the development of the £18 million
Diagnosis Treatment Centre.
